AWANA

What is it?
AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and is a premier program that changes the lives of youth. It is one of the leading ministries to help local churches and parents raise children and youth to know, love and serve Christ. Impacting kids ages 2-18, AWANA blends Bible teaching, evangelism, Scripture memorization with tons of fun.

Calvary's AWANA ministry takes place during the fall and spring, and is a great way for youth to get involved for the majority of the year. This ministry encourages parents and volunteers, and makes the children's and youth ministry all that God intends them to be!

When: Sunday from 4:45-7:00 p.m. (Fall and Spring)
Where: CEBC
Grades: K3-12th grade


Faith Sunday School

What is it?
Faith Sunday school is about discovering truths from the bible that speak to real life problems today! Our age-graded classes are designed fro those who desire to meet with others who share similar life needs ad challenges while providing opportunities for sharing and prayer. Our teachers and leaders use the bible as the core curriculum. Our goal and mission is to make disciples for Christ by causing each student to learn and produce Christ-like character and conduct in each student's daily walk. Calvary offers seven children-youth-teen classes that are designed to meet the needs of both the believer and unbeliever.

When: Sunday from 8:30 a.m. -9:45 a.m.

Ages: K4-12th grade

Hallelujah Night for Kid'z

What is it?
As an alternative to Halloween, Calvary's Hallelujah Night emphasizes the kids shining their light for Jesus (Matthew 5:16). This event, held at the Cavalier Manor Recreational Facility, includes pizza, drinks, prizes, games, and inflatables for the kids. No costumes are worn for this event and all kids from K3 – 5th grade are welcomed.

When: October 31
Where: Cavalier Manor Recreation Center (404 Viking Street Portsmouth)
Time: 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m.
Cost: Free
Grades: K3-5th grade

"I Love Jesus Party"

What is it?
It is a time where children from K3-5th grade express their love for Jesus through a celebration party. Held every February around Valentine's Day, this social festivity includes food, arts and crafts, and features the famous song "O How Love Jesus.".

When: TBA
Where: CEBC Fellowship Hall
Time: 9:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.
Cost: $3
Grades: K3-5th grade

Kids Across America

What is it?
It's fun,It's Exciting, It's not Boring, It's Hyped, It's Christ-Like, It's Cool, It's Hot, It's Fun, It's Exciting, It's not Boring, It's Hyped, It's Christ-Like, It's Cool, It's Hot, It's Out of Town, It's in July, It's an Adventure, It's a Plane Ride, It's break for Parents, It's a Break from Parents, It's Affordable, It's Basketball, It's Football, Its Swimming, It's Golf, It's Bike Riding, It's Great Food, It' Great Games, It's Great Counselors, It's Friends for a Lifetime, It' Indescribable.."

Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church takes an average of 75 or more kids annually to Kids Across America. Contact Dr. Philip McFarland for additional informaiton.

Thanksgiving Baskets

What is it?
Calvary' annual Thanksgiving Baskets is a way for the church to give back and serve less fortunate families during the holiday. This evangelistic outreach always takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving. On Friday evening, food baskets are assembled at Calvary and on Saturday the baskets are delivered. This ministry outreach is always in need of volunteers both Friday and Saturday, so set your calendar today to assist the church during this exciting time of the year.

When: Friday and Saturday, (prior to Thanksgiving)

Vacation Bible School

What is it?
It is an in-depth thematic study that allows youth and adults of all ages to learn God’s Word. This is an opportunity for Calvary to reach out into the surrounding communities and to invite the unsaved to come to church. It is opened to non-members and transportation is provided for certain communities. The activities include arts and craft, classroom activities, and class interaction. Snacks will be provided at the end of each night. Mark your calendar for this exciting event.

When: Every Summer in June
Where: CEBC
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Ages: Everyone's welcome
Registration: Begins late spring

Wednesday Night Bible Study

What is it?
Calvary's Wednesday night Bible studies for youth are known for its practical insight and thorough learning of God's Word. It is an opportunity for youth to discuss practical issues and how to apply God's Word to every situation in life. There are appropriate classes for each age group, and all youth are encouraged to come out each week and participate in this exciting study of God's Word.

When: Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for ages 13-18 and from
7:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. for ages 4-12
Where:   CEBC
